Open Hearts — Open Minds — Open Doors

Guidelines for Foster Children Ministry

1.  Acknowledge all holidays and birthdays.

2.  Keep holiday gifts simple.  This ministry is to let the children know that someone cares for them and is praying for them.  It is not to lavish them with expensive gifts.  Be mindful that other children will be in the same foster home and may not receive as much.

3.  Any card or gift should be signed as Your Friend at De Witt First United Methodist Church, not your name.

4.  Items for children should be left at the church a week in advance of holiday or birthday to allow time for delivery.

5.  Commit to this ministry, and let Sheila know if you cannot continue for any reason.  These children witness much instability, and this ministry needs to be a constant for them.

6.  You will be notified if your child exits foster care.

7.  Leave items in church office with your child's identity code.

8.  If you want to be involved in this ministry, and the current foster children are already assigned, your name will be on a waiting list.  The foster care world is always changing, and new children will be added as cases open.

9.  Pray, pray, pray for ALL of our foster children.  Though you may not know their names, God does.
